1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.
Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Storybook Trail – Move! By Steve Jenkins


Back for Spring! Take a walk or ride your bike along the Storybook Trail at Circle Park and enjoy the outdoors while reading. This family-friendly trail is co-sponsored by the Bloomingdale Public Library and the Bloomingdale Park District.
Circle Park is located at 163 Fairfield Way, Bloomingdale, IL

Focus on FUNdamentals ( Grades K-1)

Mondays, March 6 -April 17
4:15-5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Join us for a fun twist to essential skills. We will focus on everyday skills that will prove essential to a successful school year—listening, following directions, and more. There will be no class on March 27.


Reading to Rover (Grades K-5)

Saturday, March 25
10:00 – 11:30 p.m.

Registration is required.

Children will have the opportunity to read to special therapy dogs. This stress-free, non-judgmental environment allows children to build confidence in their reading. All dogs are from PAWSitive Therapy. To reserve your time with a therapy dog, call (630) 924-2740 or stop by the Youth Services Department.


Mind Math (Grades 1-3)

Wednesdays, March 22 and April 26
4:15 - 5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

The program uses the abacus as a tool to train kids to do calculations mentally without the use of calculators or paper and pen. This program is hosted by ALOHA Math of Bloomingdale.


Drop-In Movie (All Ages and Families)

Monday, March 27
1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
Registration is not required.

Get comfortable, have some popcorn, and enjoy the matinee. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Movie to be announced in March.



Button, Button, Make Your Own Button (All Ages, Drop In)

11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Stop by and make a button with our button machine. We’ll have many to choose from. Support your favorite Chicago sports team or make another fun design!


Drop-In Lego (Families, Drop In)

Legos, Legos, Legos! Drop in during the day and bring your imagination to build with the library’s Lego collection.


Lego Madness (Grades K-6, Drop-in)

Come challenge yourself and learn new techniques with the monthly theme, or stretch your imagination with free building.


Storytime with a Surprise at Stratford Square Mall (All Ages, Drop-in)

Thursdays, April 6 and May 4

Registration is not required.

Join us the first Thursday of the month for a themed storytime at Stratford Square Mall (meet by the Jolly Express Train) and receive a treat for being a good listener! All ages welcome; caregivers must remain with their children.


Craft Time (All Ages, Drop-in)

Registration is not Required.
Stop by the Youth Services department anytime between 3:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We'll supply all the materials needed.


Storytime, Milk and Cookies at Panera (All Ages, Drop-in)

Location: Panera Bread, 370 W. Army Trail Road. Enjoy a special themed storytime with music and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!



National Library Week Guess The Shredded Book Contest! (All Ages)

April 9 – April 15

Registration is not required.

Join the fun as Youth Services continues a popular tradition… guessing which books have been, oh my, shredded by the librarians! Use your magnifying glass to identify the title and author of each tattered book. If there’s more than one correct guess, each savvy sleuth will be entered into a drawing.


SprinkleBeans Science! (Grades 3-5)

4:15 – 5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Come find out just what it takes to make jelly beans and sprinkle. Learn the science of how the candies get made and even try making your own! Attendees will try “Belly Flops” beans and take home homemade rainbow sprinkles.


Silly Eggstravaganza Storytime (All Ages, Drop-in)

Hop on in for some super silly stories about bunnies and other Spring things. The whole family is invited for some eggstra special activities and crafts after story time. We “hop” to see you there!


Early Learning Kickstart (Ages 3-5)

This program is designed to build an academic foundation and foster curiosity and a love of learning. Children will begin to connect words, learn letter sounds and work with pencil skills to prepare for writing numbers and letters. This program is presented by Bloomingdale Kumon Center.



Doodle Bugs (Ages 2-3 with caregiver)

This is a special art class just for toddlers and parents. Little fingers will experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and creating, while developing fine motor skills.



Money Smart Week for Kids (Grades K- 2)

The Bloomingdale Bank and Trust will teach children to be Money Smart. Participants will receive a gift to take home.



Music and Movement (Ages 3-Gr. K)

Come for a fun filled half hour of musical exploration through song, dance, movement activities, and instrument play. Caregivers and siblings are asked to remain outside the program.

Tuesdays with Toys is an informal program giving parents with small children the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents, while children play with toys and games. Toys and games are most appropriate for children ages 3 months to 5 years.


How Does Your Garden Grow? (Grades 1- 5)
