Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each program runs for five weeks.

Winter storytimes begin the week of January 8 and end the week of February 9.

Registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders begins on Monday, December 4.

Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5)

Tuesdays, 10:30-11:15 a.m.
Registration is required.

Time for 2's (24 - 36 months)

Wednesdays, 10:00-10:30 a.m.
Registration is required.

Romper Rhymes (3 - 15 months)

Thursdays 9:45-10:30 a.m.
Registration is required.

Budding Readers (16 - 23 months)

Thursdays 11:00-11:30 a.m
Registration is required.

Family Storytime (All ages, Drop-In)

Fridays, 10:30-11:00 a.m.

It's a Reading Winterland

Monday, December 18 - Friday, February 9
Registration is required.

This is a family reading program for infants-6th grade. Beginning Monday, December 18, you may register in person at the Youth Services Reference Desk to receive your information packet and starting prize. Complete your reading log by reading for just three hours. Turn in your log at the Youth Services Reference desk by Friday, February 9 to receive your final prize and be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing.

1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Focus on FUNdamentals (Grades K-1)

4:15–5:00 p.m.
Mondays, January 8 - February 5

Registration is required.

Join us for a fun twist to essential skills. We will focus on everyday skills that will prove essential to a successful school year—listening, following directions, and more. There will be no class on January 15.

Paper Strip Art (Grades 3-5, Drop-In)

Tuesday, January 23

Come turn strips of paper into marvelous 3-D sculptures, gifts, cards, and more!

Storytime with a Surprise at Stratford Square Mall (All Ages, Drop-In)

Thursdays, February 1 and March 1
11:00-11:45 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Join us for a themed storytime the first Thursday of every month at Stratford Square Mall (meet in the Lower Level Café Court near the center of the mall) and receive a treat for being a good listener! All ages welcome; caregivers must remain with their children.

Craft Time (All Ages, Drop-In)

Thursdays, February 1 and March 1
3:00-8:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Stop by the Youth Services department anytime between 3:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We'll supply all the materials needed. January craft time will be extended from 1:00-8:00p.m.

Lego Madness (Grades K-6, Drop-In)

Mondays, February 5 and March 5
6:00-7:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Come challenge yourself and learn new techniques with the monthly theme, or stretch your imagination with free building.

Make it, Take it, Mardi Gras! (All Ages, Drop-In)

It’s Mardi Gras Time! Stop in anytime between 2-4 p.m. and make a mask in time for Mardi Gras fun!

Storytime, Milk and Cookies at Panera (All Ages, Drop-In)

Mondays, February 12 and March 12

Registration is not required.

Location: Panera Bread, 370 W. Army Trail Road. Enjoy a special themed storytime with music and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!

Arctic Animal Science and Stories (Grade K-2)

Tuesday, February 13
4:30-5:15 p.m.

Registration is required

Come to the library to learn about penguins and polar bears. How do they stay warm in the winter with all that snow and cold? We will learn about arctic animals through stories, then explore what we learned through games and experiments.

Early Learning Kickstart (Ages 3-5)

Wednesdays, February 14 and March 14
1:00-1:30 p.m.

Get early learners off to a great start. This program is designed to build an academic foundation and a love of learning. Children will begin to connect words and learn letter sounds.
Program is presented by the Bloomingdale Kumon Center.

Chinese New Year Celebration (Ages 3-5 years)

Guys Read *NEW* (Grades 4-6)

Guys Read is a book discussion just for guys. Come and have a snack, discuss the book, play games and do activities. Selected book for the month can be picked up at the Youth Services desk. February’s book is PAX by Sara Pennypacker

Cosley Zoo (All Ages, Drop-In)

Home Sweet Habitat –Local Cosley Zoo will bring their animals to us and we’ll learn about the animals and their habitats. Always a crowd favorite.

PostCrossing Club (Grades 1-6, Drop-In)

Mondays, February 19 and March 19
6:30-7:30 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Make and write postcards to send to special recipients all over the world—then come back to see what we get in return!

Kitchen Kids (Grades 3-5)

Wednesdays February 21 and March 21
4:15-5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Come practice kitchen skills and make easy, kid-friendly snacks and treats! Food is prepared and served, so please notify Youth Services if your child has dietary restrictions.

Time for Toys (Ages 3 months-5 years with a caregiver, Drop-In)

Registration is not required.

Time for Toys (formally Tuesdays with Toys) is an informal program giving parents with small children the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents, while children play with toys and games. Toys and games are most appropriate for children ages 3 months to 5 years.

LEARN with LEGOs for Preschoolers (Ages 3-5)

Build with LEGOs and build your child’s school readiness too! Come to the library for stories, learning and fun. Each program has a different theme and learning objective like numbers, colors, or letters.

Mind Math (Grades 1-3)

Tuesday, February 27
4:15–5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

This mental math program is a complete brain exercise for kids that will also trigger their whole brain development. The program uses the abacus as a tool to train kids to do calculations mentally. This program is hosted by ALOHA Math of Bloomingdale.

STEAM with Seuss! (Grades K-2)

Let's get goofy and Seussical with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! Fun activities based on the Doctor's beloved books, and a story and treat, too!
