Storytimes

Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each program runs for six weeks. Fall storytimes begin the week of September 11 and end the week of October 27.
*There will be no storytimes October 1-14th due to new carpeting.


Registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders begins on Monday, August 7.



Family Storytime (All ages, Drop-In)

Fridays, 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.
Registration is not required.


Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5)

Tuesdays, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. and Mondays 1:15 - 2:00 p.m.
Registration is required.


Romper Rhymes (3 - 15 months)

Thursdays 9:45 - 10:30 a.m.
Registration is required.


Budding Readers (16 - 23 months)

Thursdays 11:00 - 11:30 a.m
Registration is required.


Time for 2's (24 - 36 months)

Wednesdays, 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Registration is required.

1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Or you can sign up right here.


Focus on FUNdamentals (Grades K-1)

Mondays, September 11- October 16
4:00-4:45 p.m.

Registration is required.

Join us for a fun twist on essential skills. We will focus on everyday skills that will prove essential to a successful school year- listening, following directions, and more. There will be no class on October 2 and 9.


Mind Math (Grades 1-3)

Tuesday, September 26
4:15 - 5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

The program uses the abacus as a tool to train kids to do calculations mentally without the use of calculators or paper and pen. This program is hosted by ALOHA Math of Bloomingdale.


Storytime with a Surprise at Stratford Square Mall (All Ages, Drop-In)

Thursday, October 5 and November 2
11:00-11:45 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Join us for a themed storytime the first Thursday of every month at Stratford Square Mall (meet in the Lower Level Café Court near the center of the mall) and receive a treat for being a good listener! All ages welcome; caregivers must remain with their children.


Storytime, Milk and Cookies at Panera (All Ages, Drop-In)

Mondays, October 9 and November 13
9:30-10:15 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Location: Panera Bread, 370 W. Army Trail Road. Enjoy a special themed storytime with music and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!


PostCrossing Club (Grades 1-6, Drop-In)

Mondays, October 9 and November 13
6:30-7:30 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Make and write postcards to send to special recipients all over the world—then come back to see what we get in return!


Early Learning Kickstart (Ages 3-5)

Wednesdays, October 18 and November 15
1:00 – 1:30 p.m.

Registration is required. Registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders begins on Monday, October 2.

This program is designed to build an academic foundation and foster curiosity and a love of learning. Children will begin to connect words, learn letter sounds and work with pencil skills to prepare for writing numbers and letters. This program is presented by Bloomingdale Kumon Center.


Whooshter Pieces (Grades 2-6, Drop-In)

Monday, October 16
6:00 p.m. –7:00 p.m.

Bring out your inner Jackson Pollock with our special water-squirt gun art program. Make sure to wear something you don't care about because things are about to get messy! Inspired by Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson’s Super-soaking Stream of Inventions. On The Same Page Program


Kitchen Kids (Grades 3-5)

Come practice kitchen skills and make easy, kid-friendly snacks and treats! Food is prepared and served, so please notify Youth Services if your child has dietary restrictions.


How Much Candy? (All Ages, Drop-In)

October 20 – October 26
Registration is not required.

Are you good at guessing? Take a good guess at the amount of candy that fills our display case. The closest guess will get a small prize.


Craft Room Clean Out (All Ages, Drop-In)

The Youth Services’ craft room is bursting at the seams! Come and get creative with our overflow of crafts.


Halloween Spooktacular (Families with preschoolers, Drop-In)

Trick-or-Treat yourself with some Spooktacular stories and Booooooogie on down to some of your favorite Halloween music with this super special batty story time. We will parade and trick or treat around the library! Don’t forget to wear your costume!


Craft Time (All Ages, Drop-In)

Stop by the Youth Services department anytime between 3:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We'll supply all the materials needed.


I Am One with the Force: A Star Wars Party (Families, All Ages, Drop-In)

Saturday, November 4
10:00–11:00 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Much to learn we still have before the next Star Wars movie comes out. So, come celebrate all things Star Wars, and awaken the force inside you before you head out to see The Last Jedi next month. Punch it, Chewie.


Doodle Bugs (Ages 2-3 with caregiver)

This is a special art class just for toddlers and parents. Little fingers will experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and creating, while developing fine motor skills.


Lego Madness (Grades K-6, Drop-In)

Come challenge yourself and learn new techniques with the monthly theme, or stretch your imagination with free building.
