Storytimes

Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each storytime runs for six weeks. Winter Storytimes will return January 2020.




Readers and Eaters (Grades K-2) *R*

Happy Books, Happy Cooks (Ages 3-5) *R*

November registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders is open.
December and January registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders begins Monday, November 25.
Non-residents may register one week before each program begins.


1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Or you can sign up right here.


Come Together (0-24 months w/ adult, Drop-In)

Every Thursday
10:00- 11:30 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Every Thursday meet and chat with other parents & caregivers while your child socializes and explores with hands-on toys.
Please note there will be no Come Together on December 26 and January 2.


Build a Project with Little Bits (*R* Grade 3-6)

Thursdays, December 12, and January 9
4:15 – 5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

The library just received an exciting collection of Little Bits! These toys make building and inventing electronic gadgets for kids fun and easy. Join us as we talk about the basics and build a project. Provided through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.


Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead *R* (Grades K-2)

Monday, December 16, January 6 and January 20
4:15-5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Each month we will incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math concepts through engaging experiments, activities and projects. Please register for each class.


Storytime with a Surprise at Stratford Square Mall (Drop-In, All Ages)

Thursday, January 2
11:00 - 11:45 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Join us for a themed storytime the first Thursday of every month at Stratford Square Mall (meet in the Lower Level Café Court near the center of the mall) and receive a treat for being a good listener! All ages welcome; caregivers must remain with their children. December will be a special storytime with Santa!


Craft Time (Drop-In, All Ages)

Thursdays, December 5 and January 2
3:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Stop by the Youth Services department anytime between 3:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We’ll supply all the materials needed.


Science and Fun with Frozen *R* (Grades K-6)

Thursday, December 5
4:15-5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

We celebrate the new movie with science activities, games and crafts for boys and girls.


Potty Party *R* (Ages 1-5 with caregiver)

Friday, December 6
10:30-11:00am

Registration is required.

No more diapers, it’s time to use the potty! Toddlers of all stages of potty training are invited to a party with stories and songs to encourage and motivate potty training.


Family Holiday Movie: Mickey’s Christmas Carol (Drop-In) Families

Sunday, December 8
2:00 – 2:45 p.m.

Registration is not required.

The Holiday Movie is back. Enjoy this holiday classic with treats, giveaways and lots of holiday cheer.


Storytime, Milk, and Cookies at Panera (Drop-In, All Ages)

Mondays, December 9 and January 13
9:30–10:15 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Enjoy a special storytime and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!

Parent/Baby Holiday Storytime *R* (Birth-23 months w/ adult)

Registration is required. Register through the Bloomingdale Park District

Location: Bloomingdale Park District Museum at 108 S. Bloomingdale Road
Come bring the little one for this festive holiday storytime! We’ll sing songs, and get into the holiday spirit with some jubilant seasonal stories.


Sensory Time *R* (Ages 3-8 with caregiver)

Saturdays, December 14 and January 11
10:00- 10:45 a.m.

Registration is required.

A time at the library for special needs children filled with stories, songs, games, sensory stations and more. Please email us at bdys@mybpl.org if your child has special needs and interests that we would need to know in order to serve them better.


Playing with STEM (Drop-In) Ages 3-5

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are important learning areas for kids of all ages. Start your child early with our fun play to learn program. Each week we will have different stations for kids to explore.


Reader’s Theater *R* (Grades 3-6)

Registration is required.

Children will practice with scripts and then have a performance for their families and caregivers.


Ginger-bleck! *R* (Grades K-2)

Come learn about non-Newtonian fluids as you make holiday-scented oobleck.


Fa la la la Family Storytime (Drop-In) All Ages

Fast As You Can, Find Our Gingerbread Man (Drop-In)

December 23- January 3

Help! Our gingerbread men have run away! Can you help us find them? Each day 6 gingerbread people will be hidden around the youth services department. Find one and receive a sticker!


Bingo Blast (Drop-In) Grades 1-6

Monday, December 23

Registration is not required.

Start your break with some Bingo fun. Drop in anytime and stay as long as you like. Collect tokens for each game you win, once you have three tokens you can trade them in for a prize.


Bubble Blow Out New Year’s Eve Party *R* (2-3 years old with caregiver)

We have a lot of e-books and e-audio books for kids available through the Bloomingdale Library. Come to the youth service desk during these times and we will walk you through getting started and help you find some great books for your kids!


Finger Looping Fun (Drop-In) Grades 3-6
