Reading Colors Your World! Summer Reading Program 2021

Each registrant will receive our custom Summer Reading t-shirt, compliments of BPL and the Friends of the Bloomingdale Public Library while supplies last.
Reading prizes: at 3 hours you will win a BPL prize. At 15 hours you will win a free book and an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing.
Grant Prizes: Winners' Choice-Bloomingdale Business Gift cards of $75, $50, and $25.
Special Grand Prize: American Girl Doll "Melody".

We're planning a bunch of outdoor programming for all ages! Watch our social media, website, and building signage for updates and announcements. Due to the nature of outdoor programming, these pop-ups will be weather permitting and may be limited in size depending on distancing area and supplies available. Look for more information mid-June.


1000 Books Before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our exciting new program 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services Desk for more information or sign up online.


Looking For A Good Book?!

This is an ongoing program.

Choose a title from a very popular Monarch (K-2 grade), Bluestem (3-5 grade), or Caudill (4-8 grade) Illinois state award book lists! Join the Youth Services Department as we virtually discuss each title to help you pick something adventurous, mysterious, or even historical. Readers will be eligible to vote for their favorite titles in Spring 2021 when voting throughout the whole state of Illinois occurs. Many copies of of all titles are available at the library and videos of our book talks will be available on our YouTube channel.

All emotions are good emotions! Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children acquire knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions. Learn about social and emotional learning in this interactive storytime. Each storytime, we will go through the emotion of the day so you can stand on the mountaintops and show off how awesome you are. Mini kits are available FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE beginning on the video release date.

Located around Circle Park, a story awaits your family. Be sure to check out The Storybook Trail often as new stories will be featured throughout the summer. The trail is provided in partnership with the Bloomingdale Park District. Come out and enjoy!

Virtual Book Discussion: Inkling by Kenneth Oppel

What would happen if the ink from your marker drawings came to life and crawled of the page. Join us for a Zoom discussion of Inkling by Kenneth Oppel, a 2022 Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award Nominee. Older family members welcome at the Zoom discussion.
Registration for this program begins July 15. The first 8 to register get a free paperback copy of the book. A waiting list is available and we will happily put this book on hold for you.

Celebrate National Teddy Bear Day In-Person at the Library

Thursday, September 9 10:30-11:15a.m.

Ages 2-5
Drop your Teddy Bear or favorite stuffed friend off at the library to have some fun on their special day! We will meet outside the library for some crafts and games and conclude with a Teddy Bear Parade. When the parade is over you will leave your stuffed friend with the staff at the library and pick them up the next day to hear all about the fun they had! Please register each individual child attending since we need to know how many sleepover stuffed guests the library will have.
