Storytimes

Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each storytime runs for six weeks. Summer Storytimes begin the week of June 17 and end July 26. There is no storytime on July 4.

Summer storytimes requiring registration are open to Bloomingdale Library card-holders only. Registration will open May 28.




Happy Books, Happy Cooks (Ages 3-5) *R*

Mondays, June 17 - July 22
7:00-7:30 p.m.

Registration is required.


Preschool Storytime* (Ages 3-5, Drop-In Limited)

Tuesdays, June 18 - July 23
10:30 - 11:15 a.m.

Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive.


Toddler Storytime* (2-3 years with caregiver, Drop-In Limited)

Wednesdays, June 19 - July 24
10:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive.


Romper Rhymes* (3-15 months with caregiver, Drop-In Limited)

Thursdays, June 20- July 25

1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Or you can sign up right here.


Bloomingdale Chess Club (Drop-In) Grades 3 and up

Wednesdays, June 5 – July 31
2:00–4:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Participants will have the opportunity to play many games over the course of the summer and time will be given for questions and instruction. Kids aged 8 to 18 are welcome.


Robin’s Dog Stars (Drop-In) All Ages

Wednesday, June 12
1:00 – 1:45

Registration is not required.

Start off your summer with entertainment from some four legged friends! Robin’s Dog Stars is an interactive and a fun family event. Robin’s dogs will do all kinds of tricks. Plus, you will get to meet and greet the talented canine performers after the show. A fun time for all animal lovers!


Build a Project with Little Bits *R* Grades 3-6

Thursdays, June 13 and July 11
3:00 – 3:45 p.m. (Note: New Time for Summer classes)

Registration is required.

The library just received an exciting collection of Little Bits! These toys make building and inventing electronic gadgets for kids fun and easy. Join us as we talk about the basics and build a project. Provided through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.


Dance Party *R* Grades K-2

Fridays, June 14 and July 19
2:00-2:30 p.m.

Registration is required.

You are officially invited to this dance party where you will have fun doing dance moves you already know, like the floss, and learn new some new dance moves!


S.T.E.A.M. Up Your Summer *R* Grades K-2

Things are STEAMin’ up this summer! Join us as we incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math concepts through engaging experiments, activities and projects. Some activities may be outdoors, weather permitting.


Movie Trivia Challenge *R* Grades 3-6

Tuesday, June 18
2:00-3:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Just like adult trivia, we will be forming teams, having lightning rounds, and competing for prizes and bragging rights! Limited spaces available, so sign up soon!


That’s Hillarious! *R* Grades K-6

Thursday, June 20
3:00- 4:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

You will be laughing until you cry at this fun (and funny) program. We will try out some jokes, play some silly games and make a craft to fool your friends.


Preschool Drive-in *R* 2-6 years

Friday, June 21
1:00- 2:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Boys and girls start your engines, deck out your car, grab a snack and then settle in for a fun feature DVD as we convert our space into a drive-in movie theatre just for little ones.


Smarty Pants Big Balloon Show (Drop-In) All Ages

Join us for an afternoon featuring comedy, magic and Smarty’s award-winning eye-popping balloons!!


Gyotaku Fish Prints (Drop-In) Grades 3-6

Tuesday, June 25

Using paint and rubber fish we will make a scaly creation.

Have a sticky, slimy, stretchy good time making slime as a family. Adult participation is required.

Kids are invited to stop in anytime between 11:00 – 4:00 to make a 4th of July craft perfect for the holiday.

Paper Bag Costumes *R* Grades K-2

Monday, July 1
10:30- 11:15 a.m.

Registration is required.

Create a simple and colorful animal character costume out of a paper bag and construction paper. Then get “into character” as you act out your animal while listening to an animal “tail.”


Storytime, Milk, and Cookies at Panera (Drop-In, All Ages)

Enjoy a special storytime and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!

A time at the library for special needs children filled with stories, songs, games, sensory stations and more. Please email us at bdys@mybpl.org if your child has special needs and interests that we would need to know in order to serve them better.


Sun Catcher Painting *R* Grades K-6

Tuesday, July 9

Registration is required.

Paint a special ornament, hang it in a window and it will bring a rainbow to any room.


Cake in a Mug *R*

Make your very own personal cake in a cup. All ingredients and materials will be supplied. Don't forget to bring your sweet-tooth!

The Great Scott Green will captivate the audience as he brings a mix of laughter, magic and fun sure to keep the whole family entertained. The Great Scott is Chicago's favorite magician and has been featured on ABC, WGN and FOX!

How do you make sounds when you don’t have a library of digital sound effects? Watch some of the experts at work, then explore our weird collection of noisy things to create your own effects and try to stump your friends!


Magic Tricks are for Kids *R* Grades K-6

Registration is required.

Magic tricks aren’t so mysterious when you know how. Learn a magic trick and perform it at the end for your family.

Summer’s not over yet! Drop in and watch the newest DVD releases here at the library. Get comfortable, have some popcorn and enjoy the matinee. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Movie titles to be announced in July.
