Storytimes

Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each storytime runs for six weeks. Fall Storytimes begin the week of September 9 and end on October 18. There is no storytime on Friday, October 4.

Fall Storytime registration for Bloomingdale residents begins Monday, July 22 and for non-residents one week before each program begins.




Happy Books, Happy Cooks (Ages 3-5) *R*

Mondays, September 9 - October 14
7:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Registration is required.


Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5, Drop-In Limited)

Tuesdays, September 10 - October 15
10:30 - 11:15 a.m.

Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive.


Toddler Storytime (2-3 years with caregiver, Drop-In Limited)

Wednesdays, September 11 - October 16
10:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive.


Baby Tales (0-24 months with caregiver, Drop-In)

Thursdays, September 12 - October 17

Non-residents may register one week before each program begins.


1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Or you can sign up right here.


Mysterious M&M’s (*R* Ages K-6)

Red, blue, yellow, green! Chocolate, pretzel, mint! So many colors, so many flavors, which will be your favorite? *chocolate and peanuts will be served in this program


Playing with STEM (Drop-In, Ages 3-5)

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are important learning areas for kids of all ages. Start your child early with our fun play to learn program. Each week we will have different stations for kids to explore.


DIY Monsters (*R* Grades 3-6)

Spooktacular crafters, join us in the craft room to make your very own Glove Monster! All materials provided.


Baby Let’s Make Music (Drop-In, 9 months – 2 years)

Registration is not required.

Join us for a parade of fun! We will explore the world of sound using an array of musical instruments.


Smile And Do Something Nice Day (*R* Grade K-2)

Sometimes it just takes a smile to make people happy but it we can do more. Come to the library for stories about kids who made a difference and learn how you can too. At the end, we will make a sweet craft to share with a friend!


Halloween Spooktacular (Drop-In, Families, All Ages)

Trick-or-Treat yourself with some Spooktacular stories and Booooooogie on down to some of your favorite Halloween music with this super special batty story time. Stay for an eerie craft, and a special treat! No registration required.

This is a special art class just for toddlers and parents. Little fingers will experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and creating, while developing fine motor skills.


Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead *R* (Grades K – 2)

Registration is required.

Each month we will incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math concepts through engaging experiments, activities and projects. Please register for each class.


Super Science: DNA *R* Grades 3-6

Tuesday, November 5
4:15-5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

DNA is the master code in every living being, from trees to humans. Come learn more by extracting DNA from strawberries and learning DNA’s secret code.


TEA-Rex *R* (Grades K-2)

Wednesday, November 6

We will have a hilarious blend of tea parties and dinosaurs…will T-Rex manage to sip without dribbling?


Craft Time (Drop-In, All Ages)

Stop by the Youth Services department anytime between 3:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We’ll supply all the materials needed.


Sensory Time *R* (Ages 3-8 with caregiver)

Registration is required.

A time at the library for special needs children filled with stories, songs, games, sensory stations and more. Please email us at bdys@mybpl.org if your child has special needs and interests that we would need to know in order to serve them better.


Storytime, Milk, and Cookies at Panera (Drop-In, All Ages)

Zoo Tree Ornament Making Party *R* (Families)

The Bloomingdale Public Library and The Friends of the Library will be sponsoring the Village of Bloomingdale Community Tree at the Cosley Zoo. You are invited to come create crafts that will become a part the Friends of the Library tree at the zoo. Everyone is invited to help decorate the tree on Saturday, December 7 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Cosley Zoo.


Planes, Trains and Automobiles *R* (Ages 3-5)

Build a Project with Little Bits (*R* Grade 3-6)

The library just received an exciting collection of Little Bits! These toys make building and inventing electronic gadgets for kids fun and easy. Join us as we talk about the basics and build a project. Provided through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.

Homeschool Art Series: Masters' Series (*R* All Ages)

Stuffed Animals Sleepover *R* (Families)

Bring your favorite stuffed pal to the library for a fun storytime complete with a snack and a craft! Once storytime is over your pal will settle in for a cozy night sleeping in the library, then return the next day, November 26, to pick them up and hear all about their night!


Make, Take and Bake *R* (Families with caregiver)

Registration is required.

Each family will make one blueberry pie that they can bake or freeze for the holiday. The ingredients and recipe will be provided. All we need from you is the elbow grease and baking skills.


Turkey Tales (Drop-In) Ages 3-6

What are you thankful for? Come move to music and hear stories that celebrate turkeys, Pilgrims, and being thankful. After stories, we will have a Thanksgiving craft.

Family Holiday Movie: Mickey’s Christmas Carol (Drop-In) Families
