The Bloomingdale Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented person to provide excellent customer service to patrons while working at our busy Circulation Desk. This part-time, 16 hour-a-week-position requires availability for a variety of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. Your duties include checking materials in and out, issuing and renewing library cards, assisting patrons with our self-check machines and automated materials handler, performing basic technical services tasks, and other duties as assigned.

Ideal candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, dedication to excellent customer service, and have the ability to quickly and easily adapt to change while maintaining a positive attitude.

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with the completion of an LTA certification preferred.

This position reports to the Circulation and Technical Services Department Head and starts at $11.21 an hour.

Adult Services Librarian II – Part Time

Job Title: Adult Services Librarian II

FT/PT: Part-Time, 20 hours a week, non-exempt position, IMRF qualified, includes vacation

Salary: $20.86 per hour

Hours: Includes day, evening, and rotating weekend hours.
Schedule includes: Mondays 9am-1pm, Tuesdays 5pm-9pm, Thursdays 1pm-9pm, Fridays 9am-1:30pm.

Position Description:
The Bloomingdale Public Library is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time Adult Services Reference Librarian. The ideal candidate will be creative, detail-oriented, tech savvy, and a self-starter with exceptional customer service skills and an ability to use new technologies to promote library services to both adults and teens.

Responsibilities Include:
• Selecting monthly resources for homebound patrons, including assisted living and supportive living residents
• Facilitate a monthly ‘Games for Grownups’ program at the library
• Collection development of several non-fiction selection areas
• Reference Desk duties, including readers’ advisory
• Assist patrons with ebooks and other downloadable resources
• Participate in community and senior outreach events
• Other duties as assigned

• ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS
• Minimum 2 year experience in a library or comparable business/organization
• Knowledge of reference and readers’ advisory practices
• Knowledge of online and electronic resources
• Social media proficiency and an understanding of current and emerging technology trends
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
• An ability to communicate effectively and provide outstanding customer service
