Job Title: Young Adult Librarian-Librarian II
FT/PT: Full-Time, non-exempt position-37.5 hours a week
Hours: Includes day, evening, and weekend hours
Salary: $22.42/hour depending on qualifications
Position Description:
The Bloomingdale Public Library is looking for an energetic librarian to join our Adult Services department and provide excellent services for young adult patrons. The ideal candidate will be creative, detail-oriented, tech savvy, and a self-starter with exceptional customer service skills and an ability to use new technologies to promote library services to both teens and adults. This position requires day, evening, and weekend hours, with an ability to be flexible to allow for attendance at teen programs and annual library events. Candidates with a maker mindset and knowledge in young adult literature, graphic novels/manga, and gaming is preferable.
Responsibilities Include:
- Plan, promote, and implement innovative library programs for teen patrons
- Build strong, positive relationships with teen patrons
- Collection development of young adult literature and graphic novels/manga
- Reference Desk duties, including reader’s advisory
- Staff library makerspace (average twice a month), training will be provided on makerspace equipment
- Assist patrons with ebooks. downloadable resources, and makerspace equipment
- Update library webpages and social media
- Develop library website as a Web Team committee member
- Participate in community and school outreach events
- Notary Public
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS
- Minimum 2 years experience in a public library or comparable business/organization
- Knowledge of reference and reader’s advisory practices
- Knowledge of online and electronic resources
- Social media proficiency and an understanding of current and emerging technology trends
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- An ability to communicate effectively and provide outstanding customer service
- Flexibility to work day, evening, and weekend hours
