Craft: Empowerment Doll Workshop
EMPOWERMENT DOLL WORKSHOP
Join Teaching Artist, Creativity Coach and Doll Maker Victoria Reeves to learn how to design and hand-sew your own Empowerment Doll. Each doll has an inspirational message and intention. What (one word) message would you like your doll to express? Let's brainstorm and create art together!
First, you'll choose from brightly-colored doll forms, heads, (complete with many shades of skin), hair, buttons, beads and trim. Then stuff your doll, hand-sew the head to the body, add hair, draw on the face and embellish your doll with trim, buttons, and beads. Finally, write a positive message on back and give your unique doll a name. After the workshop, put it in a special place - as a reminder that you are powerful and wonderful!
Victoria Reeves teaches in libraries, schools, community centers and museums around Chicagoland. She also sells her Empowerment Dolls at local markets and teaches Story Craft Writing Courses online.
VIRTUAL: Revealing Venus
Please join us for a fantastic Zoom presentation hosted by Michelle Nichols!
Earth's nearest planetary neighbor is far from earthlike. With its acid clouds, searing temperatures, and crushing air pressure, it seems vastly different from our home planet Earth. We'll discuss what we know about Venus now, what it may have been like in the past, and what Venusian mysteries we would still like to solve - as well as how the study of planets around other stars helps us learn more about Venus.
Michelle Nichols is Director of Public Observing at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, IL, and has worked at the Adler since June 1995. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University. Ms. Nichols leads all of the Adler Planetarium's telescope, observatory, and public sky observing initiatives and events.
