About the Library
Since 1975, when the Library opened in two mobile classrooms, to today's impressive state-of-the-art facility, the Bloomingdale Public Library has a long history of excellence and a constant focus on evolving our services. Our 35,000-square-foot facility, open 68 hours weekly, provides access to an extensive collection via the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), linking patrons to Bloomingdale’s resources and those of 100 regional libraries. The collection includes books, movies, music, puzzles, learning games, audiovisual equipment, and video games, with a strong focus on downloadable materials such as eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, and TV shows. In 2019, the library earned the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious Best of Bloomingdale “Best Overall” award.
Key innovations include the 2021 opening of the Dominic Froio Memorial Garden, a serene butterfly garden and outdoor programming space, and the BPL Makerspace, a repurposed lower-level area for learning, crafting, and collaboration, equipped with 3D printers, craft cutters, sewing machines, a t-shirt press, and more.
The library offers robust technology access, including a public computer lab, express stations, in-house laptops, continuously updated computer/technology instruction, and Wi-Fi throughout the building and outdoor areas. Reference services provide access to dozens of research databases and expanded email and text support. Programming has grown to include innovative in-person and virtual programs for all ages.
The Library Board and staff are committed to delivering exceptional customer service, fostering a welcoming community space, and promoting lifelong learning.
