VIRTUAL: Images of "Honest Abe" in Art History
Often associated with 19th century photography, Abe Lincoln inspired artists across a range of media. Images of the sixteenth President evolved over the course of his political career. In addition, Lincoln remained a popular subject well after his death. This program examines paintings, photographs, sculptures and material culture relating to Lincoln and considers their historical context.
Art Historian Jeff Mishur presents this slide lecture. Mishur is an owner of Art Excursions, a company that provides private guiding, lectures/classes, and boutique art and culture tours in the United States.
VIRTUAL: The Life and Art of Horace Pippin
World War I veteran, Horace Pippin overcame adversity to become a professional artist. His paintings feature a folk-inspired style and depict contemporary African Americans as well as references to American history.
Art historian Jeff Mishur discusses Pippin and his relationship to the Harlem Renaissance movement during the period between the wars. Mishur is co-owner of Art Excursions, a business providing art-related private guiding, lectures and small group tours.

First introduced to art education in a Japanese internment camp, artist Ruth Asawa achieved success by creating handmade wire sculptures as well as figural public art (especially fountains). She also was a passionate activist for education in the arts. Learn about her life and work in this zoom program.
