User Guide: Sewing Machines - Janome DC1050, Baby Lock Melody
Description
Our sewing machines are ideal for beginner to intermediate sewers. We own 11 Janome DC1050 sewing machines and 1 Baby Lock Melody sewing machine.
What We Provide - Makerspace Equipment & Materials
Makerspace equipment is free to use, but there is a cost for project materials and items. We provide the following:
- Sewing machines - Janome DC1050 or Baby Lock Melody
- Sewing machine bobbins
- Sewing machine needles - Universal, topstitch, denim, microtex, ball point, quilting (various sizes)
- Sewing machine standard presser feet
- Janome sewing machine specialty presser feet - walking foot/even feed feet, 1/4" seam feet
- Hand sewing needles
- Irons, ironing boards
- Fabric scissors, rotary cutters, cutting mats, seam rippers
- Seam rolls
- Tailor's chalk, heat erase pens, water erasable pens, air erasable pens
- Sewing gauges, rulers, measuring tape
- Quilting ruler - Creative Grids Stripology Squared Quilt Ruler - 14-1/2" x 17-3/4" (slits are 14-3/4" long)
- Quilting rulers - ARTEZA Acrylic Quilters Rulers (Assorted Sizes) - 4.5" x 4.5", 6" x 6", 6.5" x 24", 9.5 x 9.5", 12.5" x 12.5"
- Pins, sewing clips
- Knitting needles, crochet needles
- Pom pom makers
- Fabric hole punchers
- Light box/pad for weeding vinyl, drawing/tracing, diamond painting, embroidery tracing, and related craft projects
- Limited materials for sale (cash only). Material availability is not guaranteed; prices are subject to change. We encourage you to bring in your own materials to create your projects.
- 25¢/session (black and white colors only, cash only) - Project materials - Fabric or other material for project
- Project materials - Sewing machine thread. We encourage you to bring in your own materials to create your projects. The library also offers thread (black and white colors only) for 25¢/session (cash only).

- Use the Makerspace's AccuQuilt to cut fabric for quilts and sewing projects.

In-Person - Book-A-Maker Appointment:
- Book-A-Maker appointments are one-on-one instructional sessions to learn how to use a specific piece of Makerspace equipment. After your appointment, you'll have the knowledge and experience necessary to independently work on our equipment during Makerspace Open Use Hours. They are not meant to use the Makerspace outside of Open Use Time hours.
- Book-A-Maker Appointments are open to Bloomingdale Public Library cardholders only. To make an appointment, fill out the online form. SAME DAY OR NEXT DAY APPOINTMENTS MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE. Please allow at least 2 business days for a reply.
- If you're unable to make your appointment, please email or call the staff member who contacted you. If you have multiple broken appointments without notice, staff will not accommodate future Book-A-Maker requests.
